Google Partners with Pakistan to Develop Regional Technology Hub, Says Finance Minister

Google is collaborating with Pakistan to help transform the country into a regional technology and IT hub, Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb said on Wednesday. Speaking at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce, he called the collaboration a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s digital ecosystem and attracting global tech investment.

Aurangzeb said he recently met Google executives in Islamabad, where discussions focused on expanding cooperation in digital development, innovation, and skills training. While the company has not officially confirmed plans to open an office in Islamabad, he noted that Google’s engagement shows growing international confidence in Pakistan’s economic recovery.

“Google is collaborating to make Pakistan an IT hub,” the Finance minister said.

He added that the government’s ongoing reforms in taxation, energy, privatization, and state-owned enterprises have created a more business-friendly environment, encouraging tech firms like Google to explore partnerships in the country. Over the past 18 months, Pakistan has worked to strengthen its digital infrastructure and improve investor confidence, he said.

Aurangzeb emphasized that Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic indicators and stable fiscal direction have made it an attractive destination for technology collaboration.

“This partnership is not just about technology,” he said. “It reflects Pakistan’s readiness to join the global digital economy.”

The finance minister said Google’s involvement will help enhance digital capacity, support startups, and boost innovation. He added that expanding internet access and developing digital skills remain key government priorities for driving growth.

Aurangzeb concluded that the growing collaboration with Google highlights Pakistan’s potential to become an emerging IT powerhouse in South Asia.
