Google Play Services Update 25 14 Adds Auto Restart Feature For Android

Google is rolling out the Google Play Services update 25.14, introducing a new auto-restart feature designed to enhance device security for Android users.

With the release of the Google Play Services update 25.14, Android users can expect a significant security-focused change. Once installed, the update will automatically reboot a phone if it has remained locked for three consecutive days.

This action forces the phone into its “Before First Unlock” state — a secure environment where all data remains encrypted and harder to access. This move ensures that sensitive information is better protected in case the device is lost or stolen and hasn’t been unlocked during that period.

The feature mirrors Apple’s Inactivity Reboot, which was introduced with iOS 18.1 in 2024. While Apple’s feature is limited to iPhones, Google’s implementation of this security measure will apply to Android smartphones and tablets but not to Wear OS devices.

This type of functionality delivered via the Google Play Services update 25.14 demonstrates how Google can push critical features and security upgrades without waiting for full OS updates, ensuring quicker adoption across a broader range of devices.
