When personal information like your email or phone number appears on multiple websites, it can be frustrating. Removing it often requires reaching out to website administrators and hoping they comply with the request.
To address this issue, Google introduced tools a few years ago to help users hide personal information from search results. While Google cannot delete data from third-party websites, it can prevent that information from appearing in search results.
Over time, Google has enhanced these privacy tools, making the “Results About You” feature more user-friendly. The latest update, released on Wednesday, simplifies the process of removing personal data from search results even further.
The tool works by scanning the web for details you provide, such as names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers. Google does not use this information for advertising or profile creation, so there are no additional privacy concerns. Instead, it monitors the web to notify users whenever their personal data appears online.
While “Results About You” was already designed to be user-friendly, the latest update enhances its functionality. Google has also published a blog post to inform users about the improvements.
One major update is a revamped hub, designed to make signing up easier than ever. The registration process remains unchanged, but the ability to request data removal quickly has been significantly improved.
Now, users can directly remove personal details from Google Search through the “Results About You” page. Simply clicking the three-dot menu next to a search result allows users to file a removal request.
Google has also improved the request process. The updated menu now makes it clearer which content can be removed and allows users to submit requests with fewer clicks. Additionally, users can update outdated search results, which is helpful when personal information has been removed or changed on a website but is still appearing in search results.
However, the “Results About You” tool is not yet available worldwide. Currently, it is accessible in the USA, UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, France, Sweden, Thailand, and India. More countries will be added soon.
