Google Updates Gmail with New Purchases View and Smarter Promotions Tab

Google is giving Gmail a shopping-focused refresh, rolling out two updates designed to make tracking purchases and promotions easier for users.

The first is a brand-new Purchases view, which brings all shopping and delivery updates into one dedicated place. Google says this will offer a clear snapshot of upcoming package arrivals, letting users track orders in a single list.

Packages due within 24 hours will continue to appear at the top of the primary inbox, and purchase summary cards will still show up inside related emails. The Purchases view doesn’t replace those features but creates an additional interface tailored specifically to shopping updates.

The rollout begins today for personal Gmail accounts worldwide on both mobile and web, though Google hasn’t provided a timeline for when it will reach all users.

According to the source, Gmail’s Promotions tab is also getting smarter. Users will soon be able to sort by “most relevant,” a new option that prioritizes brands and senders they interact with most often. The update adds nudges for upcoming deals and timely offers, aiming to highlight promotions users are less likely to miss. For those who prefer the current setup, sorting by “most recent” will still be available.

The Promotions tab update is expected to begin rolling out globally in the coming weeks, starting with mobile users on personal Gmail accounts.
