Google Offers Voluntary Exit Package to Pixel and Android Teams in US

Google has rolled out a voluntary exit package for US-based staff in its Platforms and Devices unit, as confirmed by a company spokesperson and multiple sources. This initiative comes after a major restructuring earlier this year, which combined the Android, Chrome, and Pixel teams into a unified organization.

The voluntary exit program, announced by senior vice president Rick Osterloh, targets employees under his leadership in the Platforms and Devices group. This division also oversees Chrome and wearable device development. Those who choose to participate will receive a severance package as part of the deal.

According to a Google spokesperson, the program aims to improve focus and operational efficiency within the restructured unit. The spokesperson emphasized the division’s strong progress and the need for a fully dedicated team to drive innovation and meet Google’s ambitious product development goals.

The April 2023 restructuring was initially framed as a move to foster innovation and integrate AI capabilities across Google’s platforms and devices. The introduction of the voluntary severance package is viewed as a strategic effort to refine the organization’s structure and ensure a motivated workforce following these sweeping changes.
