Following directives from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Ministry of Education has mandated the enhancement of cybersecurity measures across all educational institutions in the country.
Under the new guidelines, digital safety training has been made mandatory for private educational institutions. The Pakistan Electronic Regulatory Authority (PERA) has instructed schools in Islamabad to immediately launch cybersecurity courses for students and staff.
All teachers and non-teaching staff are required to complete an online cybersecurity course by March 8, 2026. Students from Grade 9 and above have also been instructed to register for digital safety courses to ensure awareness of online threats.
The initiative is part of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and Cisco Systems to address emerging AI and digital risks in educational environments. Students will have the opportunity to complete these cybersecurity and digital safety courses during summer vacations, ensuring uninterrupted academic schedules.
Officials said the move aims to equip both staff and students with the knowledge and skills needed to safely navigate digital platforms and counter cyber threats in the modern learning environment.
