Government Slashes Industrial Power Tariffs by Rs 4.04 per Unit

The government on Monday announced a significant reduction in electricity rates for industrial consumers, cutting an average of Rs 4.04 per unit. The new tariffs, -0aim to provide relief to businesses while also ensuring fairness for rooftop solar users, after months of uncertainty over government policies.

Under the notification, smaller industrial consumers- those with a connection load of up to 25kW, known as the B1 category-will now pay Rs 26.03 per unit on average, down from Rs 30.80.

Their off-peak rates have dropped to Rs 25.48 from Rs 30.05, and peak rates are now Rs 35.74 instead of Rs 36.74. A nominal fixed charge of Rs1,000 per month will apply to these small units, mirroring charges introduced recently for households.

Larger industrial consumers also saw cuts. The B2 category (25-500kW load) will pay Rs26.16 per unit on average, down from Rs30.73, while the B3 category (11-33kV transmission) will now pay Rs  27 per unit instead of Rs 31. The largest industrial users, B4 (66-132kV), will see rates reduced to Rs26.43 from Rs30.43 per unit.
