The federal government has initiated the first phase of transport subsidy disbursements through digital wallets, with payments already underway, Federal IT Minister confirmed.
“We are receiving data from all Excise and Taxation Offices (ETOs) and routing it to the State Bank of Pakistan for disbursements. As usual, our digital wallets have been the first to start disbursing funds,” the minister said, underscoring the efficiency and speed of digital financial channels.
Responding to a query on whether subsidy transfers had begun and the channels being used, the minister clarified that the initiative is being executed through digital wallets, moving towards conventional banking systems to ensure broader accessibility and transparency.
He further revealed that Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to streamline implementation across provinces. “The Prime Minister ensured that all provinces are on the same page so citizens across the country receive uniform relief,” he said.
Under the agreed mechanism, provincial governments will directly manage subsidy disbursements for motorcycles and the agricultural sector, including farmers. Meanwhile, the federal government will oversee subsidies for national-level transport, including trucks, buses, vans, and other long-route vehicles.
