Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced late Friday that the federal government has decided to keep petrol and diesel prices unchanged for the second consecutive week.
According to the notification, petrol (Motor Spirit) will remain at Rs. 321.17 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD)will continue at Rs. 335.86 per litre, effective from Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Sources revealed that the Petroleum Division had proposed a significant increase in fuel prices Rs. 95 per litre for petrol and Rs. 203 per litre for diesel. However, the prime minister rejected the summary, opting to provide relief to consumers.
To maintain current prices, the government will bear a subsidy of approximately Rs. 56 billion.
Last week, fuel prices were also kept unchanged as part of an Eid relief measure, despite ongoing global trade disruptions linked to tensions in the Gulf region.
In the past five fuel price reviews, the government has increased rates in three instances, reflecting volatility in international oil markets.
