Govt Reappoints Dr. Raheel Qamar as COMSATS Rector
The federal government has reappointed Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar as the Rector of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) for a five-year term, reaffirming confidence in his leadership and academic contributions.
Dr. Qamar previously served as Rector and was instrumental in transforming COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) into a full-fledged university. His tenure saw major advancements in research, innovation, and international collaborations, positioning CUI among the top higher education institutions in Pakistan.
According to the official notification issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the appointment was approved by the President of Pakistan, who serves as the Chancellor of the university, under the COMSATS University Islamabad Act, 2018. The decision will take effect once Dr. Qamar formally assumes office.
A ministry official confirmed:
“Dr. Qamar’s reappointment reflects the government’s trust in his academic leadership and his contributions to advancing science and technology education in Pakistan.”
Dr. Qamar, a Fulbright Scholar, has conducted research at prestigious institutions including Yale University (USA) and continues to serve as Science Advisor at ICESCO, contributing to science and technology policy development across the Muslim world.
