WhatsApp Web is preparing to receive one of its most requested upgrades yet, as the platform works on adding group voice and video calling support directly in the web client. According to WABetaInfo, the upcoming feature will allow users to join group calls from a browser without relying on the desktop app, bringing WhatsApp Web closer to feature parity with its mobile versions.
For years, WhatsApp Web has lagged behind Android, iOS, and desktop apps in terms of calling features. While one-to-one calls were introduced gradually, group calling remained unavailable. This limitation often forced users to switch devices or install desktop software. The new development signals WhatsApp’s broader effort to make its web platform fully functional, especially for users accessing WhatsApp on shared or temporary computers.
Recent beta updates indicate that WhatsApp is actively developing group voice and video calls directly within group chats on the web client. Once rolled out, users will be able to start and join calls regardless of whether participants are using mobile phones, desktop apps, or browsers.
WABetaInfo noted that the feature is still under development and not yet available for public beta testing. However, internal progress suggests WhatsApp is refining the system to ensure smooth performance across platforms.
“WhatsApp is improving its web calling infrastructure to make group calls fully compatible with browser-based usage,” WABetaInfo reported.
Similar to Android and iOS, WhatsApp Web group calls are expected to support up to 32 participants, although the company has not officially confirmed the final limit. There is a possibility that WhatsApp may initially launch the feature with fewer participants before expanding capacity.
Beyond group calling, WhatsApp is also working on call links and scheduled calls for the web client. Users will be able to generate shareable links for voice or video calls directly from group chats, mirroring functionality already available on mobile devices.
Additionally, scheduled calls will allow users to set a call name, description, and estimated time window. These calls will notify participants in advance but will require manual initiation, giving users more control and flexibility.
All these features group voice and video calls, call links, and scheduled calls remain under development and are expected to roll out in a future update. WhatsApp is currently focused on stability testing and bug fixes before making the features publicly available.
