With Eid-ul-Fitr predicted for March 21, the demand for fresh cash is rising. Citizens eagerly seek new currency notes for the upcoming celebrations. To facilitate this, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) offers a simple, streamlined procedure. Specifically, the SBP will activate its 8877 SMS service during the second week of Ramadan.
Here is everything you need to know to secure your fresh currency.
How to Use the 8877 SMS Service
Getting your new currency notes takes just a few quick steps.
First, open the messaging app on your mobile phone. Next, type your CNIC number, add a single space, and enter your desired Bank Branch Code. Finally, send this exact message to 8877.
Shortly after, the system will send a reply. This confirmation SMS will contain a unique transaction code alongside the exact address of your designated bank branch.
Requirements for Collection
You must visit the assigned bank branch to claim your cash. However, you cannot go empty-handed. Always carry your original CNIC and one clear photocopy of it. Additionally, you must present your unique transaction code to the bank staff.
Once the staff verifies your code and identity, they will issue you your new currency notes. Typically, the bank provides these fresh notes in denominations of Rs. 10, Rs. 20, and Rs. 50.
Alternative Ways to Get New Currency Notes
The SMS service is not your only route. Alternatively, you can contact your personal bank branch directly. Many banks reserve a specific quota of fresh currency notes exclusively for their account holders.
Furthermore, you can visit State Bank offices in person to acquire new currency. Lastly, banks will actively stock ATMs with fresh notes during the last ten days (Ashra) of Ramadan. Therefore, you can simply withdraw cash from an ATM to secure the new notes you need for Eid.
