IBCC Reviews Proposed Changes to Matric Framework
Pakistan’s education authorities are considering significant changes to the matriculation education system as part of broader reforms aimed at expanding learning pathways and strengthening skills-based education across the country.
The proposal will be reviewed by the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC), which has convened a consultative meeting in Islamabad on December 23. The meeting will focus on restructuring subject groupings at the secondary level and introducing alternative academic routes linked to future higher education opportunities.
Participants will discuss admission eligibility for pre-medical and pre-engineering streams at the intermediate level, particularly for students coming from newly proposed subject tracks. The agenda also includes deliberations on the equivalence of alternative subjects, recognition of foreign educational certificates, and admission matters for students pursuing vocational-oriented studies.
An official familiar with the process said,
“The goal is to make the education system more flexible and aligned with national development needs while safeguarding students’ progression to higher education.”
The meeting will also consider the formation of a national working group on education reforms, indicating a long-term approach to modernizing Pakistan’s academic framework. Education experts believe the changes could help bridge the gap between general education and employable skills while offering students broader academic choices.
