Indus Motor Company (IMC), the local assembler of Toyota vehicles, is planning to enter the used car imports in Pakistan business following the government’s recent policy changes. The company has reached out to the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to clarify documentation, compliance, and procedures required for initiating commercial imports.
While maintaining its focus on completely knocked down (CKD) operations that promote employment, localisation, and value addition, IMC is ready to explore used car imports under the newly announced framework.
IMC highlighted its preparedness to support used car imports in Pakistan through its extensive network of 58 dealerships nationwide, equipped with trained engineers and technicians. The company said this infrastructure ensures after-sales service and vehicle reliability for imported cars.
IMC already operates Toyota Sure, a certified used car platform that allows customers to trade in and purchase pre-owned Toyota vehicles. The programme provides a one-stop solution for customers looking for reliable used cars.
To move forward, the company has requested detailed regulatory guidance from the EDB to ensure full compliance with the new import policy. The development comes after the Ministry of Commerce issued SRO 1895(I)/2025 on June 30, which permits commercial imports of used vehicles under HS Codes 8702, 8703, 8704, and 8711.
