Instagram, the uber-popular social media photo sharing app, for a brief moment rolled out an update which changed the traditional Instagram news feed to a horizontal tap to advance-like scrolling.

Instagram was quick to revert the change and stated that it was caused by a “bug” that plagued the user experience.
Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion.

The social media giant further apologized for the disturbance and assured its online community that the issue has been resolved.
Interestingly Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, tweeted about a small experiment earlier and the company subsequently had pushed a planned update which was part of a “small test”. Apparently, the test was supposed to be at a much smaller scale, to judge user’s acceptance of this new interface. Following the drama, Mosseri replied to several tweets explaining the glitch:

Those who were concerned about this new unwanted feature and were curious whether it will be a permanent design part of Instagram were assured by Mosseri that it was just a small test.
