In a major update for creators, Meta has integrated its AI-powered photo and video editing tools directly into Instagram Stories, allowing users to edit visuals simply by typing text prompts. The new tools enable users to add, remove, or completely change elements in their photos and videos making creative editing faster and more intuitive.
Previously, such AI tools were available only through Meta’s AI chatbot, but this rollout brings them right into Instagram’s native interface under the new “Restyle” menu. Users can access it by tapping the paintbrush icon in Stories, then selecting “add,” “remove,” or “change” to describe their desired edits.
“You can ask Meta AI to change your hair color, add accessories, or even transform your background into a sunset scene,” Meta explained in its feature announcement.
The update also includes preset effects for quick styling, such as adding sunglasses, changing outfits, or applying filters like watercolor or cinematic effects. For videos, the AI can simulate snowfall, fire, or lighting changes expanding creative options for content creators.
However, Meta reminds users that by using these AI tools, they agree to its AI Terms of Service, which allow the system to analyze media and facial features for content generation.
This upgrade follows Meta’s push to enhance user engagement through AI. The company recently introduced “Write with Meta AI” for comment suggestions and launched a new AI video feed called “Vibes”, which has boosted Meta AI app downloads to 2.7 million daily active users on iOS and Android as of mid-October.
Meta also announced new parental control features, letting parents limit teen interactions with AI characters and monitor chat topics, addressing safety and privacy concerns.
