Instagram is expanding its in-stream teleprompter tool from the Edits app to the main Instagram camera. The update gives creators a simpler way to read scripts while recording video content.
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced the change on his Instagram Channel. He explained:
“We brought the teleprompter feature from Edits into the main Instagram camera. You can now add a script that scrolls while you record. Helpful if you want to stay on message without doing a ton of takes.”
The tool works in a straightforward way. Creators upload their video script, which then displays as rolling text right below the front-facing camera. As a result, presenters can look directly at the lens instead of glancing off to the side to read notes. That small change makes videos feel more natural and improves flow during delivery.
Instagram first added the in-stream teleprompter to its Edits app in June 2025. Bringing it to the main app now extends the feature to a much wider creator base. Creators can also control the teleprompter speed, adjusting how fast the script scrolls to match their pace.
The update fits a broader pattern at Instagram. The platform has been steadily adding creator-focused tools to the main app rather than keeping them inside Edits. Recent moves include new AI creator labels in May 2026 and an algorithm update in April 2026 designed to benefit original creators. Together, these changes show Instagram doubling down on features that reduce friction for video makers.
Many influencers and creators film talking-head Reels for product reviews, education, and commentary. Reading a script directly from the camera helps them produce cleaner videos faster, without expensive third-party apps or external teleprompter hardware.
The feature is rolling out within the main Instagram app now. Creators who do not see it yet should update to the latest version of the app.
