2026 has started on a terrible note for Pakistan’s digital landscape. Disruption in Internet services across the country has remained for over 48 hours as of today, January 6.
Nayatel, one of the country’s leading ISPs, confirmed the disruption through their official X account. They cited a major fault in one of their two upstream providers. Consequently, this hardware failure has triggered a ripple effect across the nation.
The core issue behind this internet disruption stems from Transworld, a primary fibre backbone provider in Pakistan. Since Nayatel relies on Transworld’s infrastructure, its users are currently facing severe connectivity degradation. Specifically, the fault has compromised the “uplink”, resulting in significant upload speed issues.
However, the damage is not limited to Nayatel. We have tested and confirmed that the outage has impacted other major service providers as well. Users of PTCL, Zong, and Ufone are reporting similar connectivity struggles.
To add to the frustration, the situation may worsen for some subscribers tomorrow. Nayatel has alerted customers regarding an “Essential Maintenance Activity” scheduled for January 7, 2026.
This maintenance window is set between 12:00 AM and 02:00 PM. During this 14-hour period, subscribed services will likely face further interruptions.
Currently, there is no estimated time for repair (ETR). Nayatel’s technical teams are monitoring the situation and working with the upstream provider for restoration. Until then, internet traffic across Pakistan remains significantly hampered.
We will continue to watch for any official statements from Nayatel, PTCL, and other ISPs. Stay connected to TechJuice for further developments and updates regarding this issue.
