The Islamabad driving license campaign has entered its second phase with the launch of an on the spot learner permit facility at key checkpoints, making the process faster and more convenient for motorists across the city.
Islamabad Traffic Police have introduced a new facility under the ongoing driving license campaign in the federal capital, allowing citizens to obtain a learner permit instantly without waiting in long lines. Acting on the directions of the Inspector General Islamabad, the department has expanded the campaign to help motorists save time and access licensing services closer to their daily routes.
Chief Traffic Officer Hamza Humayun announced that residents can now secure their learner permits directly at designated city checkpoints. Special facilitation vans have been deployed at Zero Point, Faizabad, G 14, and the Foreign Office checkpoints to assist people who still do not possess a driving license or learner permit. According to the CTO, the service is designed to enhance public convenience by making essential documentation available at multiple points across the city.
The CTO added that drivers caught without a valid license or learner permit will be given the opportunity to apply for and receive a learner permit on the spot. This approach aims to encourage compliance while reducing the burden of penalties for first time or uninformed motorists.
However, some motorists have alleged that certain traffic police officials misuse the campaign and engage in harassment under the guise of public facilitation. They claim that unnecessary stops and excessive questioning inconvenience commuters rather than helping them.
A proposed solution is to introduce a digital complaint mechanism at each checkpoint, allowing citizens to instantly report misconduct. This would increase accountability and reinforce the intended purpose of the Islamabad driving license campaign, which is public convenience, not intimidation.
