Islamabad Extends Emission Testing & M-Tag Deadline by One Week
Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has granted a one week extension for vehicle emission testing and M-Tag installation, giving transport operators a final chance to meet mandatory requirements. The move aims to tighten environmental checks and streamline motorway travel as authorities intensify enforcement.
The ITA announced that inter city, inter district, and inter provincial transport operators now have seven more days to complete compulsory emission tests and install M-Tags on all vehicles. This extension comes after many operators failed to meet earlier compliance requirements.
Officials emphasized that this is the final ultimatum and no further relaxation will be given.
The initiative is part of Islamabad’s ongoing drive to reduce air pollution and ensure smooth, automated toll processing on motorways. M-Tags have been declared mandatory for motorway entry, and emission checks are being tightened due to rising smog concerns.
Authorities Issue Strict Warning
According to the ITA, bus stands that do not comply within the extended period may face cancellation of their NOCs.
All bus terminals have been ordered to submit daily inspection and M-Tag reports, with officials stating that
“strict legal action will be taken against any violation.”
This marks one of the most rigorous enforcement phases the transport sector has seen in recent months.
