Islamabad Moves Towards Smart Urban Management with Digital Parking System

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has implemented a Smart Parking System across key commercial hubs of Islamabad, aiming to modernize parking operations, improve transparency, and enhance municipal revenue, according to officials.

The system is operational in several high-traffic locations, including the Centaurus Parking Lot, F-7 Markaz, and the Diplomatic Enclave. This shift from manual processes to a technology-based solution aligns with CDA’s broader plan to develop Islamabad into a digitally enabled smart city.

Officials noted that the initiative is part of a larger vision to establish a more efficient and transparent urban environment. “This project reflects the CDA’s commitment to modernize service delivery through technology and make Islamabad more liveable,” a senior CDA official said.

The Smart Parking System was developed in collaboration with AJCL (Pvt.) Ltd, a company specializing in tech integration and urban solutions. The system enables users to pay parking fees via digital wallets, debit and credit cards, or a dedicated mobile app. Additionally, digital vouchers have been introduced to facilitate cash users by converting physical currency into electronic tokens, aiming to ensure inclusivity across user demographics.

According to CDA officials, the system has contributed to smoother traffic flow and greater accountability in fee collection. “It’s a relief not having to deal with cash or long queues,” shared a regular commuter from F-7, reflecting positive public sentiment.

Officials also stated that revenue generated from the system will be directed towards improving city marakaz (commercial centres), including initiatives for better sanitation, infrastructure upgrades, and enhanced public facilities.
