The main runway at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport will be partially closed for two hours daily between November 5 and November 24 to facilitate the construction of a new taxiway, airport authorities confirmed.

This development is part of an ongoing airport modernization project launched by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) to upgrade Karachi’s infrastructure and improve operational efficiency. The airport, which handles thousands of domestic and international flights monthly, has been undergoing major renovation work since late 2024.

According to officials, work on Taxiway Q will take place on Runway 07R/25L, which will remain closed during the scheduled hours but will stay available for emergency and VVIP landings.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to all airlines, advising them to adjust flight schedules accordingly.

A PAA spokesperson stated:

“The temporary closure is necessary to ensure safe and efficient construction. All essential operations will continue without disruption.”

Meanwhile, work on the second runway (07L/25R) is progressing ahead of schedule. The Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) phase, completed on July 30, 2025, was finished nearly a month earlier than planned, thanks to advanced slipform paving technology and round-the-clock construction efforts.

The project aims to boost airport safety, capacity, and international compliance standards, positioning Karachi as a key regional aviation hub.
