Karachi Gets New Electric Bus Route Under Sindh Transport Initiative
The Sindh government has introduced a new electric bus route connecting Gulshan-i-Maymar to Tower, marking another major step toward sustainable public transport in Karachi. Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced the initiative on Tuesday while chairing a meeting of the transport department.
He confirmed that 15 new electric buses would operate on the route under the province’s electric mobility expansion plan.
Memon said the new service would make daily travel easier for thousands of commuters between Karachi’s northern and central areas. He noted that the project reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize urban mobility and reduce carbon emissions.
Officials also briefed the minister on the completion of the Taj Haider Bridge, a key section of the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The bridge is expected to open to the public soon, improving connectivity and reducing travel time across the city.
The minister added that the government was committed to expanding electric mobility across Sindh. Plans are underway to add more EV buses and launch the province’s first electric taxi service by December.
Memon emphasized that these initiatives aim to create a cleaner, more efficient transport network that supports both commuters and the environment.
