Karachi Green Line Project

The federal government has confirmed that construction on Karachi’s long-delayed Green Line project is set to restart soon, promising long-awaited relief for commuters across the city.

Speaking to Geo News, Raja Khaleeq Ansari, the federal spokesperson for Sindh, said a comprehensive review meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House, where officials evaluated all pending aspects of the project. He assured that the unfinished portions identified by the local government will be completed without further delay.

Calling it “good news for citizens,” Ansari acknowledged that the project had been delayed by about a month but is now expected to reach completion by September 2026. He also revealed plans for a new station near Capri Cinema, Plaza, and Jama Cloth, confirming that the Green Line corridor will conclude near Jama Cloth.

Responding to concerns raised by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Ansari clarified that the project’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) was issued in 2017, well before the current administration took office. He added that the NOC carries no expiration date and, therefore, remains valid.

Ansari also announced that an ultra-modern station at Karachi Cantt will be inaugurated on October 31, describing it as a “state-of-the-art facility” designed to give passengers an experience similar to an airport terminal.

Reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to Karachi’s infrastructure, he noted that maintenance work on the Lyari Expressway is currently underway, but traffic flow will remain unaffected. Ansari emphasized that Islamabad remains fully supportive of ongoing development projects aimed at improving the city’s urban mobility and public transport network
