Karachi Police Arrest Hacker Targeting Women via Malicious Links

Karachi Police have arrested a man accused of hacking the mobile data and social media accounts of over 100 women. The suspect, identified as Sameer, allegedly used suspicious links to gain unauthorised access to victims’ devices.

Sameer is currently unemployed and resides in Rabia City, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, with his mother and sister. Karachi Police reports indicate his family was aware of his activities. During the investigation, Sameer frequently changed his statements regarding his education. However, he eventually admitted to having only a seventh-grade education.

The suspect revealed his methods during interrogation. He purchased hacking tools for only Rs. 5,000 from a seller based in Lahore. Furthermore, he learned these hacking techniques through an online group.

Sameer specifically targeted women on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. He often preyed on women from middle-income households by pretending to assist them with online earning opportunities. Once he established trust, he sent them malicious links.

Consequently, clicking these links gave him access to their devices and Google accounts. He then downloaded their complete phone data, including private photos and videos. Investigators stated that Sameer used this stolen content to manipulate women into “friendships” and pressured them to meet him.

A brave young girl from Ranchore Lines played a pivotal role in the arrest. After Sameer hacked her phone, she informed her family, who immediately contacted the police. She later helped law enforcement set up a meeting with the suspect. This trap allowed authorities to detain him and seize incriminating material on the spot.

Eidgah SHO Hafeez Awan confirmed that police found more than 450 obscene videos on the recovered devices. Initial investigations suggest the suspect victimised over 100 women.

DIG South Asad Raza announced that a dedicated inquiry team will scrutinise the suspect’s laptop and phones. This team includes support from federal agencies and the Counter-Terrorism Department.

Currently, the Karachi Police are cooperating with the FIA Cyber Crime Wing to expand the scope of the investigation. Authorities are also determining whether Sameer shared or sold the stolen data on the dark web.
