Karachi Rolls Out New Traffic Rules for Heavy Vehicles
Karachi’s administration has launched a new traffic safety initiative by introducing a dedicated lane for heavy vehicles, aiming to reduce accidents and streamline goods transport. Officials have set a strict speed limit of 30 km/h for heavy vehicles and emphasized strict compliance to prevent further road mishaps.
The move comes after a noticeable increase in traffic accidents involving heavy vehicles across the city. During a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hasan Naqvi, authorities discussed solutions to traffic congestion, parking shortages, and regulatory compliance for goods transporters.
The new plan includes:
- A dedicated HTV lane from Mai Kolachi to Qayyumabad Bridge, with immediate lane marking underway.
- Enforcement of a 30 km/h speed limit for heavy vehicles.
- Review of the proposed goods transport terminal and improvements in vehicle fitness and insurance mechanisms.
- Addressing transporter concerns, including designated parking spaces.
Commissioner Naqvi stressed that traffic police will strictly monitor adherence to the new rules and ensure road safety for all commuters.
“Strict measures will be taken to prevent accidents and improve transport safety while considering the concerns of transporters,” said Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by Karachi authorities to modernize traffic management and ensure safer roads for both commuters and transporters. Dedicated lanes and improved regulations are expected to reduce congestion and accidents significantly in key transport corridors.
