Kia has discontinued the Picanto hatchback in Pakistan, with Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC) removing the model from its official lineup and halting new bookings, ending its nearly six-year presence in the local market.
LMC has not issued an official statement on the discontinuation. However, the Picanto listing has been taken down from the website, and no new orders are being accepted.
The hatchback was introduced in Pakistan in September 2019, when LMC began local assembly and positioned it as an affordable, fuel-efficient option for city driving with modern features.
Despite an encouraging launch, the Picanto struggled to secure a strong foothold in Pakistan of competitive hatchback segment. Industry observers point to persistently weak sales as the main reason behind the exit. Buyers also raised concerns over the lower resale value of the vehicle and limited availability of spare parts.
Pricing added to the challenges facing the model, as the Picanto was positioned above several key rivals at a time when consumer priorities were shifting toward affordability, resale value, after-sales support, and easy access to parts. These factors gradually eroded the appeal of the vehicle among local buyers.
While the Picanto has been withdrawn from Pakistan, Kia continues to sell the model internationally in its third-generation form. The latest version has received a second facelift, bringing a redesigned exterior, upgraded lighting, a refreshed interior, updated technology features, and enhanced safety systems.
