KP Approves Hiring of 10,000 Temporary School Teachers

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the temporary recruitment of 10,000 school teachers across the province, offering salaries of up to Rs. 25,000 per month. The decision, taken by the provincial cabinet, aims to overcome teacher shortages in both settled and merged districts ahead of the new academic cycle.

According to official details, a total of 5,845 teachers will be appointed in settled districts, while 4,229 positions have been allocated for the merged tribal districts. The hiring will be strictly time bound and region specific. In plain areas, teachers will be engaged from January 16 to May 31, whereas in hilly regions, appointments will remain effective from March 1 to June 30.

Officials said the temporary hiring is intended to ensure uninterrupted teaching activities in government schools facing staff shortages.

“This short-term arrangement will help maintain classroom continuity until regular recruitment is completed,” a senior education department official noted.

The provincial government has clearly defined recruitment authority to maintain administrative efficiency. Appointments at the primary level will be made by the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), middle school teachers will be recruited by the Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO), while the District Education Officer (DEO) will handle hiring for high and higher secondary schools. To ensure transparency, Parent-Teacher Councils will monitor the recruitment process.

KP has faced persistent teacher shortages, particularly in remote and merged districts, affecting learning outcomes in public schools. Temporary hiring has previously been used as a stopgap measure to prevent academic disruption, especially during peak enrollment periods and examination sessions.
