KP Government Approves Rs. 1 Billion for Free Textbooks, School Bags in Merged Districts

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved a supplementary grant of Rs. 1 billion for the provision of free textbooks and school bags to students in the merged districts.
The decision was taken during a marathon Cabinet meeting held on Friday, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur. The meeting was attended by cabinet members, the chief secretary, additional chief secretaries, the senior member of the Board of Revenue, administrative secretaries, and the advocate general of KP.
According to the official statement, the initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to improving access to education and ensuring that every child in the province, particularly in underprivileged and remote areas, has access to basic educational resources.
The Cabinet released instructions for departments to construct a complete scheme for school bag allotment, which should focus first on new students participating in the educational enrollment initiative for out-of-school children.
The Cabinet focused its attention on quick textbook printing operations, which will lead to better educational materials alongside cost savings for production. This shift will enable the Education Department to pay outstanding invoices while making resources more efficient in their distribution.
The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) recently approved development projects that totaled beyond Rs. 3.5 billion. During the meeting headed by Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah, various crucial projects throughout different sectors gained approval.
The government shows its commitment to improving education in previously abandoned regions by recently passing a Rs 2.5 billion project for providing free textbooks and school bags to merged districts.
Additionally, a Rs. 1 billion flood prevention project for DI Khan, focused on protecting communities along the Indus River, was also approved.
