KP Govt Solar Scheme Prioritizes Marginalized Communities
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has introduced a solar scheme to provide free solar panels to low-income households across the province, with a focus on supporting marginalized communities.
The initiative aims to benefit 130,000 families registered under the Ehsaas and Benazir Income Support Programmes, prioritizing orphans, widows, persons with disabilities, and members of the transgender community.
In the first phase, 32,500 families will be selected through a lottery system, giving precedence to areas lacking electricity. Those chosen will receive a complete solar package comprising panels, controllers, batteries, fans, and bulbs. The emphasis on marginalized groups underscores the scheme’s goal to bridge the energy access gap for the most vulnerable sections of society.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur highlighted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to tackle the province’s energy crisis. He assured that the selection process would be transparent and merit-based, ensuring that those most in need benefit first. The chief minister also noted that Dera Ismail Khan had the highest number of applicants under the KP government solar scheme.
Additionally, the chief minister instructed lawmakers to monitor the distribution process to prevent any bias. He emphasized that competition in governance should revolve around performance and serving the public effectively. The scheme’s focus on marginalized communities aligns with the government’s vision of inclusive growth and sustainable development.
