The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has established what officials describe as Pakistan’s first dedicated Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Division, becoming the first provincial police force to formally create a specialized unit focused on drone-based support for security operations.
According to official details, the move places Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of other provinces in institutionalizing the use of advanced UAV technology for policing and surveillance.
Unlike limited or temporary drone deployments used previously, the new UAV Division has been created as a permanent and structured unit, marking a shift toward organized management and oversight of aerial surveillance operations.
To regulate how the unit will operate, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been issued by the Central Police Office. These SOPs outline the framework for operational control, coordination, and the deployment of UAVs during security and policing activities.
Officials also confirmed that ground control stations have been activated in multiple districts across the province. This district-level infrastructure will allow UAV operations to be managed locally while remaining aligned with centralized guidelines.
KP Police say the initiative represents a major step toward modernizing law enforcement through technology, and could serve as a model for other regions as the use of drones expands in public safety and security operations.
