In a move aimed at keeping classrooms running during exam season, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to bring fresh graduates into examination halls as invigilators for the upcoming matric exams, alongside school teachers.
The change means that instead of relying entirely on government school teachers for invigilation duties, the workload will now be shared. Officials say the step is meant to ensure that students in public schools do not lose valuable teaching time while exams are underway.
Traditionally, teachers across the province are assigned invigilation duties during both matric and intermediate examinations, often leaving classrooms unattended. With multiple exam cycles each year, this arrangement has long been criticized for disrupting routine teaching in government schools.
According to officials in the elementary and secondary education department, the new plan divides invigilation staff equally between teachers and fresh graduates. This allows teachers to remain in their schools and continue lessons, particularly during a crucial academic period.
The decision will come into effect with the matric examinations starting March 30. Authorities say the approach has been designed not only to manage exam duties more efficiently but also to make better use of available human resources.
Officials from the Peshawar Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education confirmed that over 6,000 graduates applied through an online system developed for the purpose. From these, around 1,250 candidates were selected through a computerized draw.
