The federal government plans to establish new toll plazas across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to boost revenue collection on the province’s highways and motorways. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan issued the directives while chairing a National Highway Authority (NHA) meeting, where officials briefed him on ongoing projects, maintenance work, and pending financial liabilities.
Revenue from toll plazas is a key source for sustaining road infrastructure, covering routine maintenance, development projects, and ensuring safe, efficient highways. KP’s highways also see heavy traffic due to tourism, making new toll points an important revenue channel.
Abdul Aleem Khan instructed the Secretary Communications to coordinate with the KP government, ensuring both the chief minister and chief secretary are informed about the new toll plazas.
He said,
“Revenue collection is crucial for sustaining development and maintenance of the national road network. Funds generated from new toll points will be reinvested in KP’s highways and motorways.”
Officials also sought approval for pending payments on ongoing and completed projects. The minister emphasized on-ground verification for projects with dues exceeding one crore rupees, stating that payments should only be released after thorough physical inspections.
The establishment of new toll plazas is expected to enhance KP’s highway funding, improve infrastructure, and benefit both local commuters and tourism-related traffic, marking a step forward in provincial road development.
