The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) staged a modest recovery on Wednesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining 368.92 points, or 0.22%, to close at 169,969.32 points on September 30.
The index opened on a positive note and reached an intraday high of 171,492.52 points amid early buying interest. However, gains weakened later in the session as selling pressure pushed the benchmark to an intraday low of 169,872.13 points.
The recovery followed a sharp decline of 825 points in the previous session, when the KSE-100 closed below the 170,000 level amid concerns over geopolitical tensions and elevated global crude prices.
Trading activity remained strong, with around 590 million shares changing hands and total traded value reaching nearly Rs. 20 billion. Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Kohinoor Spinning Mills, Tasdeeq Information Services, Cnergyico Pakistan and Pakistan Refinery were among the most actively traded stocks.
Market sentiment continues to be influenced by global oil prices, Middle East tensions and Pakistan’s engagement with the IMF. The Finance Ministry also unveiled a Strategic Action Plan for the local-currency bond market under the IMF-supported programme, aimed at improving secondary-market liquidity and expanding the investor base.
