Preparations for the upcoming Basant festival are underway in Lahore, as the District Education Authority (DEA) has decided to auction the rooftops of several government schools for Basant-related activities.
Officials confirmed that the plan is being developed in coordination with the district administration and the Walled City of Lahore Authority. The auction process will begin once formal approval is granted by the Secretary of Education.
According to the proposal, rooftops of several government schools located in the Walled City and nearby areas will be auctioned for Basant-related programs. The selected schools include:
Education officials said the initiative aims to organize Basant-related programs in designated locations under official oversight. The rooftops will be allocated through an auction process to ensure regulated use during the festival.
Separately, the Lahore administration is also reviewing a proposal to declare four days of holidays during the first week of February to coincide with Basant celebrations.
Officials said the proposed holidays are intended to help manage large crowds, reduce traffic congestion, and allow the festival to be observed in a safer and more organized manner across the city. A final decision on the holiday proposal is expected after further consultations.
