Lahore police have begun registering FIRs against motorcyclists riding without safety rods, escalating enforcement measures introduced ahead of Basant celebrations. Authorities say violators will now face legal proceedings in addition to fines, as the city tightens safety regulations.
According to police sources, cases have been registered at multiple police stations under Section 188 following complaints filed by police officials. The action marks a shift from warnings and fines to formal legal action against those ignoring the safety directive.
Officials said the move is aimed at preventing injuries and accidents linked to kite string (dor) during the Basant season.
Last month, Lahore CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana announced that police would start fining motorcyclists from February 1 for riding without safety rods. He stated that the decision was part of a broader safety plan for Basant.
“Strict enforcement is necessary to ensure public safety during Basant,” the CCPO had said, warning that violations would not be tolerated.
Under the initiative, police planned to install safety rods on one million motorcycles free of cost and distributed awareness pamphlets across the city. Authorities have also reiterated a zero-tolerance policy on aerial firing and other safety violations during the festive period.
Police have urged citizens to comply with regulations to avoid fines, FIRs, and possible legal consequences.
