Lahore’s city administration has accelerated efforts to improve road safety for students by installing zebra crossings and warning signboards outside schools located on busy routes. The large-scale project, launched just two weeks ago, has already achieved 45 percent completion, officials confirmed.

Initiated on the directives of Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan, the campaign focuses on 210 schools managed by the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL), Lahore Development Authority (LDA), and the city’s Cantonment Boards. The Transport and Planning Authority (TAPA) has so far completed work at 90 schools, where both zebra crossings and cautionary signs have been placed.

According to the administration, the project aims to finish by November 6. Crossings and warning boards are being installed on both sides of each school’s main entrance to ensure safer pedestrian movement. Teams from TAPA, MCL, LDA, and the district administration are jointly carrying out the installations using data supplied by school officials.

In areas where warning signs already existed, only new zebra crossings are being painted to enhance visibility and student safety. The initiative reflects Lahore’s growing focus on road safety and improved infrastructure around educational institutions.
