The Punjab government has approved the establishment of a state-of-the-art command and control center to monitor traffic on Lahore Ring Road, aiming to improve road safety and traffic management across the provincial capital.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Works and Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath, alongside senior officials including Secretary Communications and Works Sohail Ashraf and Punjab Ring Road Authority Chairman Faisal Farid.
The high-tech monitoring center, costing Rs. 871 million, will be built at the Punjab Ring Road Authority headquarters and completed within four months.
According to officials,
“The facility will feature 42 large display screens and 20 analytical panels for real-time monitoring of over 150,000 vehicles daily.”
Equipped with advanced systems like automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), high-resolution cameras, and AI-based traffic analytics, the project will not only track vehicle movement but also detect speeding, lane violations, and other traffic offences.
Minister Sohaib Bharath emphasized that the initiative will strengthen coordination among the Traffic Police, Punjab Safe Cities Authority, and Ring Road Authority, ensuring faster emergency responses and smoother traffic flow. “This project will make Lahore Ring Road one of the most efficiently managed highways in the country,” he added.
