The Government College University (GCU) Lahore has announced a 100% tuition fee waiver for students with physical disabilities, marking a major step toward inclusive education in Punjab. The decision was made during the university’s 72nd Syndicate meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry.
The meeting approved several academic and welfare initiatives under GCU’s Rs. 3.25 billion budget for 2025–26, reflecting the institution’s focus on accessibility, academic expansion, and staff welfare.
The Syndicate approved three new PhD programs, six MS/MPhil programs, and five new BS degrees, including BS Computational Statistics and BS Criminology. It also introduced a health insurance policy for faculty, cleared pending increments for TTS faculty, and raised summer semester pay from Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 50,000.
Prof. Chaudhry said,
“This initiative ensures that no capable student is denied education due to physical limitations or financial hardship.”
To strengthen academia-industry ties, GCU will include corporate sector members in its Boards of Studies. The number of seats for OIC member countries’ students will be increased, and new diploma programs in law, criminology, and banking will be launched.
The university also plans short summer workshops in arts, languages, and theatre, alongside enhanced compensation for visiting faculty and administrative staff.
