The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a special laptop scheme for blind and visually impaired students, aiming to promote inclusive education and digital access across the province. The initiative targets deserving students enrolled in recognized educational institutions and will distribute laptops purely on merit, subject to available funds.

According to official sources, the scheme is open to blind and visually impaired students studying in recognized colleges, universities, and madrasas across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Applicants must be permanent residents of the province and possess a valid disability certificate issued by the Social Welfare Department.

The government will receive applications through an online MIS system available on the Social Welfare Department’s official website, swkpk.gov.pk. Authorities confirmed that academic performance and relevant educational skills will play a key role in the selection process.

An official from the Social Welfare Department stated, “This initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to ensuring equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities by equipping them with modern digital tools.”

The laptop scheme is part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s broader efforts to support marginalized communities through targeted welfare and education programs. In recent years, the provincial government has expanded initiatives focused on digital literacy, special education, and social inclusion, particularly for students with disabilities.

Education experts believe that access to laptops will significantly improve learning outcomes for visually impaired students by enabling the use of screen readers, assistive software, and online academic resources.

By providing laptops to visually impaired students, the KP government is taking a concrete step toward reducing educational barriers and empowering students to compete academically in an increasingly digital learning environment.
