The market price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has surged to around Rs. 350 per kilogram in Karachi, significantly exceeding the government’s officially notified rate.
The government has fixed the official LPG price at Rs. 254 per kilogram. However, retailers in Karachi are reportedly selling LPG for approximately Rs. 350 per kilogram, creating a price difference of nearly Rs. 100 per kilogram.
The sharp increase has added to the financial burden on consumers, particularly households that rely on LPG for cooking and other daily needs.
Citizens have expressed concern over the significant gap between the official and retail prices, alleging that some sellers are charging inflated rates despite the government’s notified price.
Residents have also urged authorities to strengthen price monitoring and take immediate action against retailers found violating the official LPG rate.
The wide gap between the official and market prices has raised concerns about the effectiveness of price enforcement in Karachi and the need for stricter action against profiteering.
