ISLAMABAD: Mahrang Baloch, a prominent human rights activist, has officially confirmed her nomination for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her efforts to highlight human rights abuses in Balochistan. The confirmation came through a statement on X/Twitter, where Baloch expressed gratitude for the nomination but emphasized that her fight is not about personal recognition.
“I am deeply honored by this nomination, but it is not about me. It is about the thousands of Baloch who have been forcibly disappeared and the families demanding justice,” she stated. Mahrang Baloch also urged the global civil society and civilized nations not to ignore the human rights crisis in Balochistan.

The announcement followed a tweet by journalist Kiyya Baloch, who revealed that Mahrang Baloch is among the 338 candidates for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, including 244 individuals and 94 organizations. Baloch’s nomination is seen as a significant moment for human rights in Balochistan, a region often overlooked on the international stage despite ongoing reports of enforced disappearances and other violations.
Notably, Baloch was also featured in the BBC 100 Women 2024 list, which highlights influential women making significant impacts worldwide. Her inclusion in the list brought further attention to the ongoing human rights challenges in Balochistan.
