Authorities in Faisalabad have imposed a strict no-smoking ban in all public and private hospitals, following directives from the district administration. The move aims to protect patients and staff from second-hand smoke and ensure full compliance with Punjab’s anti-smoking laws across healthcare facilities.
The order was issued by the Chief Executive Officer Health on instructions from the Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad. A formal notification directs hospital administrations to immediately prohibit smoking in offices, sub-offices, wards, and all premises within their facilities.
Hospitals must install clear no-smoking signboards, train staff to enforce the ban, and submit monthly compliance reports to health authorities.
The directive reinforces the province-wide implementation of the Prohibition of Smoking Ordinance 2002, which Punjab authorities ordered to be strictly enforced in 2025. Under the law, officials can impose fines ranging from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 100,000 for smoking violations in public places, including hospitals.
Provincial guidelines already prohibit smoking in educational institutions, government offices, shopping malls, healthcare facilities, and public transport.
Officials say the stricter enforcement in hospitals is intended to create smoke-free healthcare environments and improve patient safety. Authorities warned that violations within hospital premises will face penalties under provincial regulations.
With Faisalabad mandating a comprehensive hospital smoking ban and strict reporting requirements, Punjab’s anti-tobacco regulations are seeing stronger enforcement at the district level to safeguard public health.
