Bungie has officially confirmed the release date for its revitalised Sci-Fi FPS, Marathon. The extraction shooter is scheduled to arrive on March 5, 2026.
This announcement follows a leak earlier today, where a trailer appeared prematurely on the game’s Xbox Club page. Shortly after, the developer verified the date. The game will launch simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, Bungie confirmed that crossplay and cross-save features will be available immediately at launch for players with a Bungie.net account.
The path to this release date has seen adjustments. Bungie first announced Marathon at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase. It marked the studio’s first new project following its acquisition by Sony in 2022.
However, development hit a snag during the Summer 2025 closed alpha tests. Feedback was mixed. While critics praised the art direction and atmosphere, they expressed strong reservations regarding meta-progression and moment-to-moment gameplay. Consequently, Bungie delayed the title just a month later. Now, seven months after that delay, the studio has returned with a clear vision, a new trailer, and a concrete launch date.
The latest gameplay trailer showcases a refined loop. Players will complete contracts for six distinct factions. Success relies on utilising special abilities to outmanoeuvre AI and player opponents. These abilities include:
Furthermore, players will unlock narrative “Codex” entries by finishing missions, earning achievements, and discovering narrative items.
Bungie also revealed a massive voice cast featuring industry icons, including several alumni from Baldur’s Gate 3:
