MediaTek Dimensity 7100

MediaTek has quietly expanded its midrange lineup with the Dimensity 7100, a new chip positioned as the successor to the Dimensity 7050. While the company has not made a big announcement, the specifications signal a clear performance upgrade aimed at affordable 5G phones.

At its core, the Dimensity 7100 uses an octa-core CPU built for balance. It combines four Arm Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz with four Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 2GHz. Graphics tasks are handled by the Mali-G610MC2 GPU, which should offer a noticeable boost over older midrange solutions.

The chipset supports LPDDR5 memory at 5500Mbps and LPDDR4x at 4266Mbps, along with UFS 3.1 storage. For imaging, it can handle cameras up to 200MP. Display support goes up to 1200×2600 resolution with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, targeting smoother scrolling and gaming.

On the connectivity side, the Dimensity 7100 includes a 5G modem with dual 5G SIM support and peak downlink speeds of 3.3Gbps. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. For navigation, it works with GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC.

Looking ahead, the upcoming Infinix Note Edge could become the first phone powered by the Dimensity 7100. However, the Tecno Pova Curve 2 may reach the market first, depending on launch timing later this month.
