Islamabad is preparing for one of the most consequential diplomatic events in Pakistan’s recent history. US Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are heading to the capital for face-to-face peace negotiations with an Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The talks, mediated by Pakistan following the two-week ceasefire PM Shehbaz Sharif brokered on April 7, are scheduled to begin on Saturday.
But before any of that starts, Pakistani social media has already claimed victory in the only battle it truly cares about: the meme war.
Within hours of the Vance visit being confirmed, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok in Pakistan erupted with jokes, fictional scenarios and tongue-in-cheek commentary about what happens when the American Vice President lands in a country that runs on chai, biryani and deeply chaotic hospitality.

And of course, Chiipa Sahab had to get in there somewhere:

Netizens also made fun of the American Vice President’s potential morning show appearance:

Some even joked how PM Sharif will react:

Some even cautioned JD Vance about his phone:
The jokes are not mean-spirited. They are affectionate in the way Pakistani humor often is, taking a moment of genuine national pride, Pakistan hosting a ceasefire negotiation between the United States and Iran, and wrapping it in the absurdity of everyday life. There is real satisfaction underneath the memes.
In all seriousness, Pakistan brokered this ceasefire to worldwide acclaim. The world’s most powerful country is sending its vice president to Islamabad, of all places, to negotiate peace. That is not lost on anyone, even the people making jokes about Vance trying to figure out how Careem works.
If there is one thing Pakistan’s online community has proven over the past week, it is that you can broker a ceasefire between two global powers and still find time to ask the American delegation to bring duty-free perfume.
