WhatsApp is developing a new feature called WhatsApp Meta AI chat summary to help users better manage their unread messages across chats, groups, and channels. While WhatsApp offers numerous ways to connect with family, friends, and communities, the flood of notifications can often feel overwhelming.
The challenge of keeping up with countless unread messages is common, and revisiting them later can be tedious. To address this, WhatsApp is introducing the WhatsApp Meta AI chat summary feature that uses Meta AI to privately condense chats, saving users from sifting through long conversations.
According to WABetaInfo, the upcoming feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.15.12. It appears that the summarization option will pop up as a “Summarize with Meta AI” button once a user receives a “certain number” of new messages.
When users opt to summarize, the request will be processed privately, ensuring that neither WhatsApp, Meta, nor third parties can access the messages. However, it remains unclear if the summarized content will appear within the chat UI, a pop-up, or a separate Meta AI chat window.
It’s important to note that the feature won’t work for chats where either party has enabled Advanced Chat Privacy, which prevents chat exports and Meta AI usage. The WhatsApp Meta AI chat summary tool is still in development and is expected to roll out in a future WhatsApp update.
