Meta has pledged to invest $600 billion in U.S. infrastructure and job growth by 2028, marking one of the largest commitments by a tech company. While specific details remain limited, Meta confirmed that much of the funding will go toward building new AI data centers across the country.
The company said its primary goal is to accelerate the development of next-generation artificial intelligence and move closer to what it calls “personal superintelligence.” According to Meta, expanding its data center network is vital for advancing AI projects and preserving America’s leadership in technology.
The $600 billion figure was first mentioned during a White House dinner with tech executives in September. Mark Zuckerberg referenced the number at the event, which later gained attention after a live microphone caught a private exchange with President Trump. During that moment, Zuckerberg admitted he was unsure what figure the president expected him to announce.
Meta also underscored the growing employment opportunities linked to its data center expansion. Since 2010, these centers have generated over 30,000 skilled trade positions and 5,000 operational jobs. The company said it is currently investing more than $20 billion with U.S. subcontractors to support ongoing projects.
The idea of “superintelligence,” where AI surpasses human cognitive ability, has appeared in several previous Meta statements. However, some experts continue to urge caution, calling for strong safety standards before further progress.
Zuckerberg has also positioned Meta’s AI glasses as a key step toward this future. Earlier this year, he suggested that individuals without such devices could face a “cognitive disadvantage” as AI becomes more deeply integrated into everyday life.
