Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has pledged to make the motorway police corruption-free within one month, directing the Inspector General of Motorways to take strict action against officials involved in bribery.
The announcement came during a video-linked meeting with representatives of the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, where axle-load regulations, SROs, motorway-related issues and other transport sector concerns were discussed.
Aleem Khan said legitimate demands of goods transporters would be addressed promptly, and that issues faced by Mazda operators and ten-wheelers would also be resolved on a priority basis.
He said the axle-load policy would be implemented immediately, with no overloaded vehicle permitted on motorways, and welcomed transporters support for the policy.
He directed the Motorway Police chief to ensure no official involved in bribery or corruption remained in service, adding that corrupt personnel would face dismissal as well as criminal cases.
Aleem Khan urged goods transporters to avoid extreme measures and act in the national interest. He invited transport sector representatives to Islamabad on Monday for further discussions.
