Parts of Balochistan are set to see the return of mobile internet after authorities suspended services for five days following terrorist attacks last week.
Additional Chief Secretary Hamza Shafqaat told Dawn that mobile internet had been shut down to prevent further unrest, but services are expected to resume from midnight.
Residents of Nushki, Sibi, and Mastung still face interruptions in mobile connectivity, while towns including Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Panjgur, and Turbat have experienced sporadic outages.
“Keeping in mind the worsening law and order situation in the province, mobile internet has been shut down,” said Additional Chief Secretary Hamza Shafqaat.
It is pertinent to mention that the provincial administration also halted train operations as a precautionary measure, citing ongoing security concerns.
A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways’ Quetta division, Muhammad Kashif, confirmed that services from Quetta to other cities remain suspended until the situation stabilizes.
“Once the security situation improves and we receive clearance, services of the Jaffar Express (Quetta-Peshawar) and the Bolan Mail (Quetta-Karachi) will be restored,” he added.
